Written Prompt for Issue Three
When you hear the phrase “take root” what comes to your mind? Do you think of nature, your own ancestral roots, your home, or to you does it mean finding yourself again? 2020 provided a time when many found themselves taking root by reconnecting with their home, nature, identity, values, etc. Others, however, might be feeling the exact opposite. The past year also brought chaos to many. Some might have been experiencing difficulties with housing, school, work, borders, relationships, health, and much more. Many have found themselves completely uprooted and faced with the challenge of healing as they simultaneously try to ground themselves this new year.
We ask that you connect with the idea of “taking root” and turn your interpretation into art. Whether that be reflecting on how you’re planning to find your footing after chaos, your experience having to go inwards over the past year and “take root” at home, how you connect with your ancestral roots or nature, etc. The possibilities are endless. So, with that in mind, we ask you — how do you take root?
